Trips We Do

Captain Rob Gams assures all visitors to Orange Beach, AL that no matter what is in season, he will take you to the best spots and give you the opportunity to catch some truly amazing fish.

2015 is the first year in recent history that federally permitted charter boats may be able to see some relief from the mandated short seasons that have repeated every year since 2007’s re-authorization of the Magnuson Stevens Fishery Conservation Act (MSA). The mission of the MSA is to ensure a healthy sustainable fish stock is maintained in all of the United States coastal waters. This year is the first year where charter boats and their guests will start seeing the rewards of being good stewards of the sea.

Depending on the time of year you are coming to Orange Beach or Gulf Shores, there are many fish species you can keep if you book a long enough trip or come during certain times of the year.  The most common fish we catch are: Red Snapper, Vermilion,Red Grouper, Greater Amberjack, Lesser Amberjack, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Red Drum, Jolthead Porgy and Red Porgy.

 Our Trip Packages and Durations:

3-5hrs Package

Our shorter trips are perfect for families or smaller groups that want to experience the water and ride on a comfortable boat without the intensity and expense of a longer trip. The primary means of fishing is generally trolling for nearshore species although some bottomfishing can be allocated under the right conditions. Although these trips can be quite productive at times, the main emphasis is on having a good time on the water. One exception to this occurs with the annual Cobia run generally in April and May. This highly coveted fish is exciting to hook up, provides a formidable fight, and tastes delicious.

      March-April-May--------Spanish Mackerel, Cobia(april, may)

June-July-August-------Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Red Snapper(5hr only, in season)

Sept-Oct-November----Red Fish, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel

      Dec-Jan-February-------Not Recommended

6 and 8hrs Package

These trips are for a little more serious fishing involving bottomfishing for some of our more common reef species. We generally troll on the way out to the bottomfishing grounds sometimes fast and other times slow depending on what happens to be the most productive at that particular time (we often catch King mackerel as well as Spanish and sometimes Wahoo). Bear in mind that though certain reef fish are not available for retention during the whole year all can be enjoyed by catching and releasing (after a photo shoot of course).

March, April, May--------Amberjack, Triggerfish(seasonal), Vermilion Snapper, White Snapper

June, July, August-------Red Snapper, Vermilion Snapper(beeliners), White Snapper

Sept, Oct, November----Amberjack(seasonal), Vermilion Snapper, White Snapper

Dec, Jan, February-------Amberjack(seasonal), Vermilion Snapper, White Snapper

Designed for the serious bottom fisherman this length of a fishing adventure not only offers all the reef species you would expect to encounter on the shorter bottomfishing trips, the added time allows us to go farther and to deeper water. Here we are much more likely to encounter some of our several grouper species including Scamp, Gag and Snowy. Some customers have been joining in on the latest craze by Deep Dropping with electric reels. This can load the boat fast and enables us to experience some of the more exotic species such as Sea Bass and Golden Tilefish. The Cool Breeze has the best equipment available for this type of adventure.

This length of trip is productive throughout the entire year.
